The Partners

From North to South

ALGACYCLE brings together experts from different fields to address common goals. Hubel has large amounts of drain water that need to be treated expensively, while Necton is interested to use these drain waters to replace expensive fertiliser. FulgurIT aims to advance its competencies in developing automatisms for microalgal cultivation, benefitting Necton´s algal production. The research-driven institutions Nord, UAlg and Nibio provide scientific know-how in analytics, fish and alga-based experiments, advancing the current state-of-the-art.

Necton S.A., Olhão, Portugal

Promotor [NECTON]: Necton is the oldest company in Europe producing and selling microalgae. Supplying the sectors of aquaculture and cosmetics since 1997, Necton has also gained scientific, technological and market knowledge on the feed, food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical and bioenergy sectors. The company has a unique and distinctive experience in designing and operating different microalgal cultivation technologies, ranging from open to closed systems. With a 76-m3 tubular photobioreactor facility, 200-m3 raceway, 14 1-m3 flat panels and short-term plans to expand, Necton is able to cultivate freshwater, marine and hypersaline microalgae of many genera. In fact, Necton’s staff has experience in cultivating around 30 different microalgae.
